About this unique piece:
This cello’s clear and distinct sound is the most evident characteristic through which it captivates. This instrument’s strengths shine through with ease when played delicately, and beckon one to discover and express the filigre details of the music. Clarity is always preserved, both in pianissimo and fortissimo, and shows its brilliance in expression, deeply moving the performer and listener alike.
It is a truly masterful work, concluded in Mirecourt just before the onset of the Great Depression in the late 1920s. Following World War I, the Spanish flu, and the profound social upheavals of the 1920s, the Zeitgeist of a glorious future may well have extended to Mirecourt, chastening its luthiers to bring to bear their best knowledge and skill in their work.
It is this spirit, perhaps, which reaches you while playing this cello and allows you to experience growth above the revealed fullness of sound.
