Markneukirchen Violin “Hieronymus Amati”

The violin label dubs this 4/4 violin as an instrument of Hieronymus Amati – although not from his hand, but following his model, this approx. 100 year old violin was equipped with an extremely opulent body arching. Instruments with this design are said to produce a mellow, warm sound – which is the case here. The fact that hardly any bow noise is perceptible when playing turns out to be positive. Thus, the soft character of the sound comes significantly to the fore.

The violin counts many years and corresponding traces of use. Several repairs were made during this time, all of which are very well done. In their nature and quality, they particularly show that its owners obviously cared about preserving the violin and being able to play it. Thus, not only is its sound mellow and its tone warm, but its tonal balance and maturity are remarkable – it should hardly need long to sound in top form again.
