Nicolas Duchene Model Violin, ca. 1900

This piece is large and slim. Following the model of the old Mirecourt master Nicolas Duchène, it was crafted with great care in the workshops of Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (JTL). The one-piece back’s exquisite wood grain and the typical rich red color of the varnish are attractive features. The scroll is precisely and skillfully carved, as is to be expected with these models. These aspects confirm the assumption that this was a high-quality violin even at the time.

The violin itself bears credible traces of an instrument that was once played regularly, yet is still in good condition. Its sound has a warm and soft character that shines in the upper registers. The tone is balanced and assertive, which is equally suitable for chamber music and solo playing.
