About this unique piece:
The brandmark discloses the manufacture of this violin based on a model by Didier l’Aîné Nicolas, Master Violin Maker, and manufacturer at large. Nicolas, whose model is reminiscent of Stradivari, undertook multiple efforts to produce a greater tone in his violins and succeeded in doing so on occasion at the time. This instrument sounds extraordinarily assertive, possibly as a result of these efforts. At the same time, its comparatively high volume comes across as always well-balanced producing a full, voluminous tone.
An additional note allows the conclusion that this violin served as an exhibit at the 1931 Paris Colonial Exhibition and that it was well-kept and cared for in the years that followed since it is in excellent condition.
